Things You Don’t Want to Read in the Duty Log
Hello, Stacie! You get to read a whole bunch of reports tomorrow! And it’s only the first night. We’re having so much fun already.
Also, yes, Lisa is in the staff office, just out of frame. I wasn’t able to get the composition to work with her in frame as well. This is one of the first comics I scripted, and have been looking forward to drawing for quite some time. (Again, I love drawing exaggerated reaction shots!)
(Disregard the previous one. I screwed up the address)
So he’s got an analog typewriter as well.
I find it surprising that Hank is using a typewriter unless LSU (Lakeside State University for those who have forgotten) is so tight budgeted that he has no choice but to use one for the log.
True, though it is mostly for aesthetics and to make the joke work.
Also, even when I was doing this only a decade ago, the logs were hand-written. (Incident reports were not.) I could backwards-justify it as Hank getting creative with typewriter format settings so he doesn’t have to hand-write everything in the log.
But it’s more Rule of Funny.
Regarding the typewriter, it’s an aesthetic choice, and it’s what makes the joke work.
We’ve seen one in Hank’s room before, too. (Thought it was hooked up to a tablet as well.)
So is there a reason Stacie looks like a certain cartoon ursine?
or is it just me?
I may or may not have used that particular model sheet for a hair reference, yes.
Hey… (Nudge, nudge)… Nocturnal readers are here to collect the comic rent.
I’m eager to see this story continue as well, but I don’t see how poking the artist in the ribs gets him out of his drawer’s block any sooner.
If you see this, Eddie, I sincerely hope you’re able to find the motivation to continue drawing this story. If and when that happens, I look forward to seeing how much the methods of Leslie “Bushel Breeches” Stryker backfire.
Hey Eddie, I just wanted to say I binged on the archive and love this! I hope you think of making more, but seeing the last posting was in March from before – well, just from the Before, I totally get the hiatus. I hope that you and yours are staying healthy, and that pieces of life can settle down so creative juices can flow again. Thank you for making something that I could grin at during this horrible year.
